How it all began

We met in Portland. We quickly realized we had a lot in common — mutual friends (having both grown up in Portland), rambunctious dogs, and a love of sports and activities (particularly competitive ones).

Alex has unlocked Dylan’s long-dormant passion for cooking (instilled by his mom who is a very good cook), and Dylan has turned Alex into an avid pickleball and tennis player. It turns out a strong net game in volleyball transfers well.

One of our first trips together was to SMU’s homecoming. Several months later we took a whale-watching trip to Cabo. Somewhere in between, we started spending weekends at Cannon Beach — where Emmy and Lucy can run free and show off their love of water wrestling.

Pets are a huge part of our lives. Lucy and Emmy have become best friends, and Mimi, our regal cat, has somehow managed to turn Dylan into a cat person. Unfortunately, Lucy’s obsession with Mimi has led to the revocation of upstairs privileges, but we’re working on it.

At sunset on a beautiful Friday in February, Dylan proposed by our favorite rock at Cannon Beach, while Emmy and Lucy ran circles around us.

We’re so excited for our next big journey—going on safari in Africa for our honeymoon—and whatever comes after that.

“I was pleasantly surprised when Dylan walked into our first date as he looked better in person than in his Hinge photos, which I did not expect.”

Dylan & Alex

We met on a dating app in 2020 while I was living in LA but at home visiting my parents. Alex does not remember this early encounter but I thought she was gorgeous and hoped we would meet again one day. When we matched again in 2024, we met up in person and immediately hit it off. I was blown away by Alex’s energy and wild laugh. Alex was just happy to meet someone with a job and no face tattoos. We have been inseparable ever since.
